The Role of Calcium Hydroxide in Polyol Cross-Linking
The NICC series is a high-purity calcium hydroxide designed specifically for use as an acid acceptor in the polyol cross-linking of fluoro rubbers (fluoroelastomers, FKM).
In fluoro rubber processing, calcium hydroxide carries two distinct responsibilities. Together they determine both the physical properties of the finished rubber and the stability of the process that produces it.

As a reaction aid for cross-linking
Working with the cross-linking aid, it removes hydrogen fluoride (HF) from the fluoro rubber polymer to form a double bond, at which the polyol cross-links the molecular chain. This is what starts the cross-linking reaction. -
As an acid acceptor
It neutralizes and absorbs the hydrogen fluoride generated during the reaction, protecting the rubber from degradation and the mould from corrosion.
Features of NICC
Fluoro rubber parts are used in packings, seals and other applications where reliability is not negotiable, so the compounding ingredients are held to strict standards for dispersibility and freedom from foreign matter.
NICC is manufactured under thorough quality control with a fine particle design from which coarse particles — the usual cause of poor dispersion — have been removed. Moisture, which leads to agglomeration, is controlled and removed, and the product is packaged in a form with excellent storage stability. The result is a minimal risk of defects arising from poor dispersion.
